The Rundown

Lately I have: doodled girls with eggs, chipped my front tooth, become an advocate of fruit salads, read murder mysteries late at night, received some swell bowls for my birthday, thought this really does look like the perfect ice tea, found my favorite, long-lost album where I'd never thought to look, carved a block print, checked movies out of the library and been thrilled with hot, humid weather.

And you?

Mysteries. And Cupcakes.

I am really enjoying the episodes of "Miss Marple" on PBS; all I want to do is sketch the characters. I don't think it's possible not to enjoy anything that involves an overabundance of sweater vests, phonographs and arsenic.

There's a new cupcake shop in the area, featuring a wide, wide assortment (Ladd Street, in Portsmouth). I was torn between Key Lime and Red Velvet, but chose Red Velvet. The condition of said cupcake looked much better though prior to me walking a half mile, dodging cars/bikes/dogs/street musicians/peace protesters/kids on skateboards. But oh so good, and oh so worth the near death encounters.

Questions and Answers

Before I forget, the lovely Stephanie Fizer posted an interview with me on her blog, as part of a series on the daily lives of creative types. You can even see a photo of my argyle socks if so inclined.

Zinnias

Amazingly enough, the acrylics tucked away with my old class supplies are still usable all these years later. This time around though, I didn't paint color wheels and grey scale values. I stuck to flowers instead.

Summertime

I can't believe it's July already. I think I got lost somewhere around end of April. The never-ending monsoon outside is aiding in the delusion. At least everything is super saturated green and there's the sound of rain falling in the woods at night.

Late in the day sun makes for nice dinnertime beach trips. We started a rock path that went down to the water's edge (in theory), but since the tide was going out (fast) it never quite made it there.

Next time.
