Almost Yearly-ish Giveaway

So -- looks like it's that time of year for a giveaway.

And what's yours for the taking you might ask? The illustration above was done this past Spring for postcards and I'll be giving away a print of that. Also, I'll probably throw in a few other goodies with your package, because that's how I roll.

The rules are pretty much the same as before:

1) To enter, leave a comment letting me know your favorite book. Not just the book you kind of like, I'm talking the book that you LOVE. An "I'd take it to a desert island with me/all the pages are dog-eared/I can quote random passages from memory" sort of book.

2) I'll take entries up until 11:59 PM Monday November 1 (EST).

3) No geographic restrictions; I'll mail both stateside and abroad. If you're overseas, you are responsible for any customs fees incurred.

4) The winning entry will be chosen Tuesday November 2 at random.

5) I'll announce the winner Tuesday evening. Easy peasy, right?

Break a leg!

not an easy question to answer... but i'd have to go with Letters to a Young Poet by Rilke. It is a book i have faithfully read about every five years or so since i was gifted the book on my 15th birthday...it always has new meaning for me the older i get and i think i will never tire of it's lessons.

still in love with your work...

Oh, oh, OOOOOH!!! I LOVE this illustration! I'm a big fan! My verrrry favorite inspirational book is "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom. I just LOVE it!

this is the sweetest. i adore everything you draw.

my favorite book might be The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis.

(you have no idea how hard it was to choose one. i might have just typed that sentence fifty-four times.)

my very favorite? the ordinary princess, by mm kaye. it's not particularly deep, but it does have a very strong "be who you are" message, which i think everyone can use now and again.

That is impossible - I cannot pick just one book! Books that come to mind are the Secret Garden (I literally read one copy of it over and over until it fell to pieces), Handmaid's Tale, Prayer for Owen Meany, The Perks of Being a Wallflower...and oh so many more.

oh here's hoping that today (or the day the winner is chose, rather) is my lucky day - the print is delightful!

favorite book: hands down, JANE EYRE by charlotte bronte. i try to read it every fall, as the weather so perfectly frames the gothic romance. when i can't fit it into my somewhat limited reading schedule, i watch the BBC (mores recent) film version with toby stephens as the brooding mr. rochester - oh swoon!

an almost equally pleasing fall gothic tale is THE THIRTEENTH TALE - a recent and sure favorite of mine. i highly recommend it as well.

Oh my, this is such a hard task to choose just one. There are lots of books I love and have read many times and will read many times more. If I can list just a few (in no particular order):
- The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin,
- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen,
- The Summer Book by Tove Jansson,
- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows,
- most of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books...
I'd better stop now :)
Thank you so much for the giveaway, although I'm usually not very lucky in such situations ;)

love your work! my most recent favorite read would have to be Lust for Life written almost a century ago about Van Gogh born almost 2 centuries ago but somehow feel I can relate even now to the crazy life of the starving artist.

Oh how I wish I was the type to win contests - I *heart* your illustrations! On to the difficult (nearly impossible) task of selecting just one book....in that case it must be Jane Eyre.

Captain Blood by Rafael Sabatini. So lovely. Pirates, revolution, love, pirates, revenge, slavery, escape, pirates, big pirates, smart pirates, dashing pirates, blundering pirates, Spanish pirates, English pirates, French pirates, PIRATES! Also it has a gripping plot and a wonderful love story intertwined through it all.

Did I mention the pirates?

I really LOVE your drawings! I'm eleven and I like to draw too! My favorite book would have to be "The King in the Window" by Adam Gopnik.

Ooooh! *happy dance*
I've got several, but I think i'll go with this one: Seven Sons & Seven Daughters by Barbara Cohen and Bahija Lovejoy.

I've read it only about a couple million times, which would explain why my copy is totally dog-eared and such.

Twelve Pilgrim Tales by Gabriel García Márquez; twelve or the best stories I have ever read. Lovely book, and a story for every taste.
Lovely!

Oh, I do love your artwork. One of my most favourite books, I could read it over and over, is "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. I first read it for a high school class WAY back when. Haha. I still have that same copy. :)

Thanks for the chance to win!

It's a little hard for me to choose, but I keep going back to Dodie Smith's "I Capture the Castle." It's one of those book that can make me laugh and cry and read it all night without stopping, every single time :)

This is such a great giveaway!

Love this illo, it is very charming!

I have 2 favorites that I have nearly destroyed by re-re-reading: The Family Tree by Sheri S. Tepper (has a fantastic "ah ha!" moment) and The Stand by Stephen King, when I need something creepy. :)

Hmmmm, how to answer? When I was little I read Beautiful Joe, the Autobiography of a Dog by Marshall Saunders over and over. The pages were definitely dog-eared. Now that I'm older I find myself rereading The Time Traveler's Wife at least once a year. I don't know if this would be my desert island book, but I know I identify with it in many ways. I'm a librarian and a paper artist, so those parts of the book resonate deeply with me.

Keep up the good work. I'm so enjoying Penny Dreadful.

This is a killer assignment! Only one book? I have many, many books (Ive been a voracious reader for 42 years - I got hooked on reading when I was 8.) My favorite author of all time is Elizabeth Goudge. And the one that is the most falling apart is The Dean's Watch. Out of print, but worth the search.

How about one series? The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Don't mess with me when I'm reading one of those!

Not to be a brown-nosing goodie-two-shoes, but if it's the book I have to have, it's gotta be the Bible. It has everything: stories, songs, poetry, life, light, darkness, and, (thanks to that pulsing thread of love all the way through) a happy ending. I was thinking of Beauty, by Robin McKinley, until you mentioned being able to quote passages. :) I can only do that with one book...

Holy Schmidt! I just redid my daughters' bedroom in THESE colors :)

My favorite, never go anywhere without it, book would have to be not really a book but my one volume collection of Grimm's Fairytales. Everything is in there! Intrigue, romance, tragedy, miracles, love, family, sacrifice. I keep a mini collection in the glovebox of the car on the odd chance that my car ever breaks down. then I have something to read, for myself or to the kids. :)

Great artwork! What a great idea! ...My favorite book right now is probably "Safe Passage", a true story about two frumpy sisters in England who take trips out to main land Europe to rescue Jewish families during the lead up to WWII. It was earlier printed under the title "Follow Your Stars". Great book for music lovers...
