I talked to someone recently who said it's too easy to think glowingly of books you read as a child as perfect. Tinged with nostalgia, you're remembering the book as one thing, when in fact they might be, well, duds.
Since "
The Westing Game" came up in conversation, I decided to put it to the test. Verdict? Liked it at 13, loved it at 30. And Sydelle Pulaski taking shorthand in Polish to confound everyone is priceless. Actually pretty much anything Sydelle Pulaski does is priceless, so I couldn't resist sketching her smug and satisfied.
And everything else:
*If you're local, check out the
facebook group to save The Strand theatre.
*I'm getting my fill of Miss Marple and Agent ZigZag thanks to
BBC Radio 7. This would be old hat to anyone across the pond, but oh so new to me.
*
"My Sister, The Freak" webcomic is a swell read.
*"
Retro Style Graphics" is a treasure-trove of vintage reference.
*And
Portsmouth Tea Company is making me rethink my coffee preferences because their tea is just that amazing.
