Cloud 9

An impending three day weekend + lots of sun + getting an enormous to-do list cleared off = Cloud 9.

And:

*Illustrator Kelly Light is creating some beautiful artwork to benefit the International Bird Rescue Research Center, which is involved in helping wildlife impacted by the recent gulf oil spill. Surf on over, donate and get a swell painting in the process.

*If you're local, I'm looking to get a group together for an upcoming SketchCrawl in July. If you'd like more info., shoot me a line at abigail@theodesign.com.

Now if you don't mind, there's a bucket of iced coffee with my name on it.

Illustration Friday - Early

For this week's Illustration Friday theme, "Early," I decided to immortalize the only thing that makes getting up before 7:00 AM worthwhile: coffee.

End of the Line

Random, "Hey my eyes need a break from a computer monitor where's my paint?" moment. And what is it about trains and that sense of adventure? The Orient Express is waaaaaay beyond my budget, but if I ever win the lottery I'm telling you...

Arf

'Till recently one of my sisters was working at RoseArt. She'd been telling me about these color blanks and I kind of started hyperventilating, so she sent me one. I'm not finished with the little guy yet, but let me tell you, it's more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Picture This

This past weekend's NESCBWI conference was pretty darn nifty. Excellent talks, nice people and I didn't get lost and end up in the South End driving home (yeehaw).

It was great to be able to connect with such an incredibly talented and genuinely nice group of people from the blogosphere and/or twitterverse including:

*Melinda Beavers (who did a phenomenal job live-tweeting throughout the event - look for the #nescbwi10 hash tag for her dispatches)

*Dani Jones

*John Lechner

*Robert Squier

*Nicole Tadgell

Oh, and Matt Phelan's workshop was stellar and Marla Frazee's talk made my head implode with its awesomeness.

Newts?

When your own mother asks when you're going to update your blog, you know you better get with it.

A few weeks back I read about The Page 100 Project on Drawn. The premise? Take the 100th page of your favorite book and turn it into a comic. "Code of the Woosters," my favvvvvorite read as a teen seemed like it was made for this sort of thing and here's a snippet. It's going s-l-o-w-l-y, working on it sporadically here and there. But there are newts. Yes, there are newts.
