Gee

It didn't really fit the project I was working on, but I have a soft spot for this drop cap sketch.

Sequential Conundrums

So the "Code of the Woosters"/Pg. 100 comic I started back in May did get finished, but I forgot about it, 'till rummaging through some files today. I'm kind of on the fence about the end result. It needs a hefty amount of tweaking, but time ain't on my side. So instead, here's a snippet I did like. And you know what? I'll give it another go down the line, because I really had a lot of fun working with a format that was completely new to me.

Too Darn Hot

I don't have air conditioning, so it's been an exercise in grin n' bear it this week with triple digit temperatures. There's something about this weather though that takes me back to being a kid and making millions of glasses of powdered lemonade and hiding outside with a book.

Speaking of which, I'm trying to remember one story that revolved around British school children being shipped out of London at the start of World War II. The plot revolved around a girl from a well-to-do family swapping places with another girl, so as to avoid being sent to Canada. Instead the main character gets sent to a farm in rural England and there were bits about hard boiled eggs and fighter planes and all sorts of other good stuff, but Google is failing me now, so anyone else remember? It might have come out sometime in the late '80's, early '90's if memory serves me right?

Illustration Friday - Giant

I haven't had a chance to do an Illustration Friday subject in awhile, but when I saw this week's topic I knew I had to try squeeze it in.

Oscar Wilde's "The Selfish Giant" is one of my favorite stories, even though I'm incapable of reading it without a lump forming in my throat.

Pen and ink, with watercolor.

Two!

A birthday present for a freshly-minted two year old: the latest adventures of the Octonauts and a homemade cat doll I finished up at the 11th hour.

Plink

It's Independence Day this weekend and what am I doodling? Girls with thick boots and scarves, of course! Completely out of season, but why not...
So happy 4th to those of you stateside. And happy Canada day to the nice people over the border - if you could ship some dark chocolate Kit-Kat bars my way that would be swell.
And before I forget, these instruments on Etsy are tempting me to break the bank. Um, hello musical awesomeness.
