Penny Dreadful

Today's the release day for "Penny Dreadful," by Laurel Snyder, with illustrations by yours truly.

The story is a real gem, packed full of small town adventures, eccentric neighbors and a whole lot of heart. "Penny Dreadful" was an absolute delight to illustrate and I fell in love with the story from the very first page. Be sure to go grab yourself a copy!

Past Tense

Some film noir-ish sketching.

And a yard sale with 20 cent books. Really good books. Books that maybe I don't have enough room for. So sis, "Eight Cousins" is heading your way.

Happy (what's left of it) weekend!

Acrobatics

This was for last week's Illustration Friday prompt, "Acrobat," but I didn't get around to posting it in time. Drat. The texture in the background is from this aaaaamazing flickr user.

And here's a picture of the illustration in progress, starting out as a pencil and watercolor sketch. An aside, the watercolors I've had since high school. I don't have an undying loyalty to the brand or quality (and often end up filling in with tubes), but the sentimental attachment? It's pretty strong.

Autumn-y

It's officially fall! Which means apples! And cooler temperatures! And candy corn! And Halloween! And all those things merit a blog post full of gratuitous exclamation point usage!

It's been full steam ahead on various projects in this here neck of the woods. I think there needs to be a blog giveaway in the next few weeks though. And, I have a couple fun projects to finally unveil.

So stay tuned.

Voyage

I've been gripped by a sense of wanderlust lately.
There are too many cities, states, highways and byways untravelled.

Zombies!

Someone sent me the link to this anonymous proclamation of undying love; since it references zombies, the operative word would literally be "undying."

I got a big kick out of it, therefore, a quick sketch of the would-be-heroine was definitely in order this morning. Ka-POW!

The Sketchbook Project

I signed up for the Sketchbook Project a few weeks back, choosing the theme "In Flight."

There's nothing more intimidating than a blank sketchbook, so when it arrived in the mail I let the book sit a few days. And then I took a deep breath and just dove in.

So far, so good.
