Moleskine

I brought a sketchbook with me to a Merry Outing this weekend; during some of the downtime I was able to fit in a bit of drawing. Hello if you swung by the table and picked up a postcard or a business card. It was nice meeting all of you!

And for those that inquired, I'll be putting some of the screen printed greeting cards, etc., etc., etc. in the shop later this week, so stay tuned.

Things Numbering Three

1. I've fallen in love with Wonderfalls. If you like your comedies quirky, colorful and utterly fantastical, it should be your cup of tea.

2. In the area? Don't miss a A Merry Outing this weekend. I'll be there!

3. The trailer for "The Lost Thing" is amaaaaaaaaaaazing. (via Simply Read Books)

Now to tie up some loose ends, pack up my pencils and go eat some pumpkin pie.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Let's Take to the Skies

There's a chill in the air and a sense that fall is passing away. I like whirring down the street on my bicycle when it's getting dark nights, looking at all the brightly lit houses as I fly by. Cold and winter aren't my favorite things in the world, but the ensuing coziness and warmth of this time of year is something I can get behind.

And my head is whirring with ideas and projects and things I want to tackle as I'm ending up more indoors than out. So huzzah for the impending winter and the ensuing inspiration at hand.

"We Are Not Two We Are One"

8tracks is a nifty little music site that I've been messing around with this afternoon. Here's today's stuff-I-listened-to-while-working-and-drinking-way-too-much-coffee inspired playlist.

Also, I'm pretty sure when Ray Davies wrote "Strangers" he wasn't picturing children and monsters (above), but I sure do. Blue monsters, to be precise.

Slurpee?

Time for a quick sketch break. I don't have time for much else. NaNoWriMo owns my soul.*

*Say that in your very best Vincent Price voice.

Sherlock

I'm a big fan of the new "Sherlock" series running right now. I was initially skeptical; in my mind, Jeremy Brett is Sherlock Holmes and anything else just seems sacrilegious.

But guess what? It's good. Darn good. So good, that it deserved a doodle today.

The Production Line

I'm working on some goods for an upcoming holiday fair. My head is still in October though, so thinking December-ish thoughts is leaving me a bit discombobulated.

And a gold star if you can tell what's streaming on the laptop.

Before and After

Here's the start and there's the finish. This one started off as a drawing in my sketchbook with some watercolor. Once scanned, I added additional color and texture in photoshop (lather, rinse, repeat).

And voila, you have a winged girl prepared to take on the world (or at least her corner of it).

To Cross a Sea

The New York Public Library has a Flickr feed chock full of amazing photographs. My favorite set is the collection of images from Ellis Island, especially the images of newly arrived immigrants. There's something incredibly heartbreaking and vulnerable about the photos. I had that at the back of my mind while doing some sketching today.

Sketchbook Project, Redux

I just realized the deadline for the Sketchbook Project is only two months off, so I better get drawing. Fast.

Nelly the Egg

World, meet Nelly the Egg.

My niece and I decided to do some drawing tonight. I was out of ideas for what to draw, so she suggested Nelly the Egg. Upon further questioning, it appears that Nelly the Egg is the side-kick of a pink haired girl. The two travel the country as a circus act, a cranky girl and her happy egg enthralling crowds.

I think that would make for some eggs-cellent entertainment.

And We Have a Winner

So according to the Random Number Generator, the print giveaway winner is (drum roll please):

Number 16, Tera.

Tera, if you shoot me a line at abigail AT theodesign DOT com with your address, I'll send your print on its merry way.

And sorry for the lack of posts. I have company in town (huzzah!) and am also slogging my way through NaNoWriMo (gasp!). By the by, if you too are attempting this insanity, let's commiserate comrades.
