Happy Friday-ing!

Brrrrrrrr

Hey all you Northern Hemisphere-ites - staying warm? Because darn it, this is chilly (even for a native New Englander).

And randomly, "Between the Folds" is a phenomenal documentary on origami from an artistic, mathematical and scientific perspective. I'd put it on the other night as background noise, but ended up glued to the set. If you see it in the television listings, tune in.

Winging its Way

It's done! Tuesday morning I sent a finished sketchbook off to Brooklyn.

I've been working on my Sketchbook Project submission since the Summer; letting go of it was hard. I tend to think of sketchbooks like I do diaries: not intended for public consumption. So it was with a fair amount of trepidation that I even started this one. But you know what? I had a terrific time. Mistakes and all.

And if you'd like to check out the sketchbooks in your neck of the woods, check this map out.

"All Dolled up in Gabardine"

As the lyrical subject line indicates, I am geeking out over the Decemberists' new album. Thanks to the nice folks at NPR, you can listen streaming here. If you like your music twinged with Americana and amps, then go take a gander.

Weave in the Ends

I'm finishing up the last few pages in my Sketchbook Project contribution. Saturday is the last day to post entries, so I'm scribbling/pasting/painting furiously. My theme was, "In Flight," and it's been a real treat to work on.

And other things I am attempting to finish at breakneck pace, a million of these squares. Well, maybe not a million, but it sure feels that way. I was working on this while watching "The Secret of Kells" this weekend. Twice. If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to rectify the situation immediately. It's easily one of the best animated films I've ever seen.

Also, I just realized this month marks five years of blogging. Good times!

Step One

Oh, January. You are too long. Too cold. If I had my druthers, I would spend you somewhere far South with a stack of novels and some French press coffee. I'd forget about chest colds and weather woes and anything even remotely related to the season.

Although I would miss ice skating. Anyhow:

*"Séraphine" is a wonderful, wonderful film. It is heartbreaking. And it is magical. Which is why you should watch it.

*The ballet puzzle I illustrated for Galison/Mudpuppy is up on their site. Demi-plié!

*I managed a comic, here.

*I can't remember if I've linked to this before, but in terms of photo reference for drawing hands, this site wins hands down.
