Anya

I read inhaled "Anya's Ghost" last night and decided to do some fan art as a warm up this AM. Terrific story, fabulous art and a Camera Obscura reference = five stars.

And some housekeeping:

*I'll get back to updating this next week. Promise.

*If you're on Facebook, well gosh darn it, you might like this.

The Pieces of the Puzzle

I'm scanning photos from my grandparents' attic.

I can identify most of the people in the photographs. A few I can't.

And for those I can't assign identities to, I think I'll just make up a past.

Harrumph!

This? This grump-tastic lady is what you draw in your sketchbook after the mechanic tells you that mice have been gleefully wreaking havoc on various parts of your car ($$$) and that it's going to take some extra time to get everything fixed (!!!).

Anyway, on to happier, rodent-free things:

*I love this interview with Maurice Sendak.

*24 Hour Comics Day is October 1 and I think I'm going to take a stab at it this year. Gulp.

*Here's a sneak peak at what I was working on this Summer.

*And the fact that there is new Wilco and freshly picked apples in my life makes the world a whole, whole lot nicer.

Okay. Back into deadline mode. Catch you on the flip side.

Problem/Solution

I hit the wall midway through the afternoon and the only workaround was espresso and some sketchbook time. It did the trick nicely. Some Motown tunes didn't hurt either.

One of These Things is Not Like the Other

I caught an episode of "George Gently" the other night. Detective Sergeant John Bacchus is everything a crime-solver's sidekick should be: brash, presumptive, bungling, yet idealistic and strangely endearing. See Hastings, Watson, et all.

Drawing from some photo reference, attempting to nail down a character's shocked expression. Quelle Surprise?

And an octopus, for no other reason than that I like cephalopods. And speaking of marine life, I really, really, really want a pet jellyfish.

And I have company this week (huzzah) and some upcoming deadlines, so posting here and here might be a bit light for the time being. In the meantime, Happy September-ing!

Back to School

I think it's that time of the year, judging by this morning's school bus sighting. I don't care how old you get, it feels like the world starts anew in September.

Also, The Enormous Tiny Art show is neat and Lost and Found is a triple dose of awesomeness.

Birds and Books

Okay. So...

*The latest installment in the Cupcake Diaries series, "Emma on Thin Icing" (with my cover art) is now in a bookstore near you.

*Post-Irene, there's a library that needs your help. Read more here.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!
